YAWN YARD Kouri Island
The yards at YAWN YARD are intimately linked with their surroundings outside the hotel grounds. A wide variety of experiences await you. Learn about Ryukyu-banana fiber cloth (basho-fu) with people in the neighborhood, check out the forest inhabited by gentle, majestic insects, walk through fields where once-extinct native vegetables grow again, visit local village kitchens, or venture out into the ocean on hand-built sailboats. These yard activities used to be a part of everyday life in Yambaru. Visit with local people who care for these activities, and do not want them to disappear due to the conveniences of modern life. Enjoy weaving or getting muddy and sopping wet in the fields.
Experience
Only here can you have these Yambaru experiences that allow you to visit with the local people, who YAWN YARD holds in high regard, and participate in their activities. We call them classes, but they don't involve desk work. They are about going out into the fields, learning how to cook, walking in the forest, and venturing out into the ocean together.Getting to know the area in the way the local people do leads to a more meaningful Yambaru experience.
